1. How long have you been selling real estate?

I’ve been a realtor of good standing since 1978. 37 years.

2. Why did you feel it was important for you to become a solar certified professional?

My clients count on me to advise them on every facet of their home buying and selling process. I’m seeing more and more solar in our area that being the case I made it my business to get certified. My clients count on me to be knowledgeable and current.

3. How do you feel the real estate market has changed with the increasing popularity of residential solar systems?

The electric bills in every home have consistently been rising , making more consumers starting to investigate and go with the Solar Companies.

4. What are common questions/concerns homeowners have in regards to buying or selling homes with solar?

Homeowners are often very misguided. They don’t realize how important it is that they know the different kind of solar companies out there. Those promoting Leasing and those promoting Ownership. I also work with the right company to get the best equipment installed with expert workmanship.

5. What’s the most important thing you learned from the SCP training?

The most important thing was I didn’t realize that different companies offer Leasing as an option to lure the consumer in with no money down. However when selling your home it becomes a problem selling the lease to the new buyers. That was such an eye opening fact, I work with a lot of first-time homebuyers, Owning a solar system means a lifetime of savings for them.

6. As a real estate agent, what advantages or disadvantages do homeowners have with purchasing or leasing a solar system?

Simply put, any leased solar system does not add value to a home and can be a hassle in the sale process.

7. What’s a common solar myth that you debunked from your SCP training?

A solar system can make all or most of the electricity that a home will use. I used to think it was an added expense and I couldn’t have been more wrong. Producing your own energy from the sun saves people a fortune they don’t need to spend with the utility.

8. How was your experience in becoming an SCP from the training to the certification test?

The training was, fun and informative and well worth my time. I like to keep my clients well informed.

9. How will being a solar certified professional change the way you market houses going forward?

Now that I know what to look for, I can better inform my clients on what’s best for them. SUNation has completely impressed me with their professionalism, their experience and their commitment to Long Island.

10. Would you recommend the SCP training to other professionals in the real estate industry?

Absolutely. I’ve already recommended this to my colleagues. It’s such a valuable tool to the client.
